Chocolate lovers had the perfect excuse to indulge in their favorite treats on Friday, April 8, 2016, as they joined several hundred of their Texas neighbors and converged on the streets of downtown Carrollton for the 6th annual Chocolate Walk.

Perfect for all ages, this family-friendly event let people sample free cupcakes, fudge and cookies from local vendors.

Not only was it a great way to mingle with family and friends, but it was also a fantastic opportunity for businesses to get their names out there; after all, we all know that networking is key when it comes to building a company. All Carrollton-area vendors were invited to participate in this delicious event.

Made from tropical Theobroma cacao tree seeds, chocolate has been around for a long, long time. The earliest use of it dates back to the Olmec civilization in Mesoamerica. However, the sweet treat didn’t become popular until the discovery of the Americas, when its demand skyrocketed in Europe.

Did you know that chocolate can also benefit your health? Well, it definitely can! Recent research shows chocolate can lower a person’s risk of developing heart disease and it reduces blood pressure as well as “bad” cholesterol levels. It has also been linked to preventing memory decline.

If you missed this year's Chocolate Walk, no need to worry, it will be back again next year!
