If safety ranks high on your list when it comes time to deciding on a new car, you’ll definitely want to give the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport a look. It recently earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ award for its top-tier safety standards.
The prestigious designation is the institute’s highest award, as a vehicle must score a good rating in the five-occupant protection tests while an advanced or superior rating is required for an available front crash prevention system.
“We are thrilled that Santa Fe Sport has achieved the gold standard for CUV safety from IIHS and NHTSA,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “These awards underline our commitment to developing advanced technologies that assist in avoiding crashes all together. A class-leading body structure protects occupants if a collision does occur.”
Every 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, and front-seat active head restraints. The list continues with a rearview camera and Hyundai’s emergency telematics system, which provides remote access, emergency assistance, theft recovery, and geo-fencing.
The Santa Fe Sport’s available Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) uses both the forward-facing radar and camera to detect a vehicle or pedestrian, warning the driver of a possible collision. On top of this benefit, the vehicle’s available Multi-view Camera system features four cameras that give you a 360-degree view around the entire SUV.

The five-passenger vehicle is offered in four other trims: SE, Limited, SE Ultimate, Limited Ultimate and Santa Fe Sport.
