On March 31st, Hyundai unveiled a pioneering demonstration project in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, to highlight advanced accessibility features in their vehicles. This project is part of a new effort to enhance ease of use and accessibility for every Hyundai driver and passenger.
Central to the demonstration is the R1, a modular companion explicitly designed for individuals with mobility limitations. R1 vehicles come equipped with side-door boarding so that passengers using mobility devices can travel comfortably alongside two additional riders. For those with vision or hearing loss, the vehicles also incorporate a high-contrast display and a rear-seat tablet that facilitates seamless communication with the driver.
The R1 is paired with Shucle, Hyundai Motor's on-demand mobility solution. The Shucle app empowers users to request rides instantly, significantly reducing wait times and offering accurate arrival updates based on real-time demand. In addition, a voucher program for current voucher taxi customers allows up to two complimentary rides per day. Users receive vouchers directly via the Shucle app, eliminating the need for mobility support center authentication.
