2017 Hyundai Ioniq Overview

Known as the first vehicle in the world to offer three different electric powertrains on a single platform, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq in Carrollton is one of the most exciting new nameplate's to join Hyundai's lineup this year. Its wealth of eco-friendly technologies, striking design and impressive driving capabilities make it a great fit for buyers in today's market interested in a fuel-efficient vehicle with the looks of a gas-engine model.

The exterior of the Ioniq flaunts a fluid shape, aerodynamic lines and a hatchback-styled profile, which come together to improve the car's aerodynamics. On top of these design elements, each model features unique touches that help shape their identities.

Three Models, Top-Notch Features

The 2017 Ioniq in Carrollton is available in three versions: Ioniq Hybrid, Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid and Ioniq Electric. All three variants come with a range of features that are both efficient and eco-friendly. The interior is made up of various amounts of recycled materials, including volcanic stone, powdered wood and plastic. The air conditioning can even be switched to an efficient operation mode or "Driver Only" mode in an effort to take a load off the powertrain.

An infotainment system equipped with a 7-inch screen displays gauge functions, and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hyundai's Blue Link connected car system is also offered on the model and features everything from diagnostic to remote services.

Efficient Powertrains

A Kappa 1.6L direct-injected Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder is outfitted in both Ioniq Hybrid and Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid models. It comes paired with a six-speed double-clutch transmission and delivers an estimated 104 horsepower and 109 lb.-ft. of torque.

On the Hybrid, the engine is matched with an electric motor that generates 43 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque, and a lithium-ion battery.

The Ioniq Hybrid Plug-in couples the engine with a 60-horsepower electric motor and lithium-ion battery. It gets an estimated 25-mile all-electric range with this setup.

Unlike the previous two models, the Ioniq Electric dumps the engine. It uses an electric motor that produces 120 horsepower and 215 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery. 2017 Hyundai Ioniq reviews praise the model's 110-mile driving range and ability to achieve an estimated 125 MPGe rating.

Active Safety Technologies

Active safety features are readily available on the new Ioniq. Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection are the most notable ones called out in several 2017 Hyundai Ioniq reviews. A Tire Pressure Monitoring System to ensure proper tire inflation and Smart Cruise Control are also featured on all three Ioniq models.
