What's New For the 2019 Hyundai Kona?

Now entering its second year, the Hyundai Kona made a few key tweaks to make it even better. This subcompact crossover has a wide range of new safety features that comes standard. Replacing the 12V power outlet from the 2018 Kona are standard dual USB charging ports. Although the black and silver color combination will no longer be available, drivers can now choose to get their Kona in Sunset Orange.

High-Tech Features

You can choose from four different trim levels when shopping for a Kona, with each trim having a front-wheel and all-wheel-drive version. Trim options are SE, SEL, Limited, and Ultimate. No matter what trim you decide on, you have 7 stylish exterior colors to choose from.

Many great features are standard on all trim levels with the 2019 Kona. These vehicles are compatible with both Android Audio and Apple CarPlay. You get cruise control with steering wheel controls, keyless entry, and a six-speaker stereo system. Those who choose the Ultimate trim package get an even more impressive audio system with 8 speakers, including a subwoofer. To make sure your music sounds perfect, the Ultimate trim comes with Infinity® premium audio with Clari-Fi™ Music Restoration Technology.

Color touchscreens are a standard feature in the 2019 Kona. The S, SEL, and Limited all give you a 7" screen, while the Ultimate gives you 8" and includes navigation. Other features in this top of the line trim are a wireless charging pad for compatible devices and a Blue Link® Connected Car System.

Helping to make the Kona a stylish and sporty looking vehicle are several exterior features. The Limited and Ultimate editions have both a power slide and tilt sunroof as well as LED tail lights. With the exception of the S level Kona, each version comes with roof rails, heated mirrors, and rear privacy glass.

Impressive Drivetrain

2019 Hyundai KonaThe amount of horsepower you can get out of a 2019 Kona depends on which of the two available engines you choose. The S and SEL both feature a 147-hp, 2.0-liter I-4 engine. Drivers of a Limited or Ultimate trim Escape get a 175-hp, 1.6-liter turbocharged I-4 engine. There are two versions of the transmission as well. The S and SEL have a 6-speed automatic w/OD and auto-manual, while the Limited and Ultimate have a 7-speed auto-shift manual w/OD and auto-manual.

They include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Forward Collision Mitigation, and Lane Departure Assist. Other standard safety features are side-impact bars, electronic stability, anti-lock brakes, the LATCH system for attaching car seats, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System with individual tire indicator, and crumple zones.
