We've all heard dreadful stories about pets being left in hot cars, but some still think it's okay if it'll only be for a few minutes or if they leave the windows cracked open. However, one veterinarian in North Carolina, Dr. Ernie Ward, conducted a test that proves there's no excuse for leaving pets in the car and that it should be avoided at all costs.

In a sweat-inducing experiment, Ward sat in a car for half an hour with all the windows rolled down about an inch or two, something that many drivers do when they leave their dogs in the car. It was a 94-degree day during the summer in NC, which is pretty close to the average temperatures we'd experience on a mid-summer day in north Texas. In the video to the right, you'll see Ward explain just how unbearable the temperatures inside the car got after just five to 10 minutes, and you might be surprised to learn that after half an hour the cabin was approximately 117 degrees and Ward was completely covered in sweat.

If Ward found this situation excruciating, just imagine how it would affect your beloved dogs. Often people think they'll only take a few minutes to run an errand, but there's always a chance that your attention could get diverted, and if you forget how long you've left your pets in the car it could lead to a fatal outcome for your furry friends. So, with summer now in full swing, we'd like to remind everyone to never leave pets in the car unattended.
