Going green was the name of the game for Hyundai at the recent New York International Auto Show. The carmaker unveiled three new eco-focused vehicles: the Ioniq Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric. This paves the way for the all-new Hyundai Ioniq to be the first car ever to offer three unique electrified powertrains on a single vehicle platform.

Hyundai leaders say the new model has something for everyone. “Ioniq will attract an entirely new group of eco- and efficiency-oriented buyers in the U.S.,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “With outstanding powertrain flexibility, design, connectivity, and advanced technologies, Ioniq meets the needs of a large and growing group of buyers needing a highly efficient, low-emissions vehicle without compromise to their daily lifestyles.”

Designed for energy efficiency, every Ioniq powertrain is symbolic of Hyundai’s push for cleaner transportation. Both the Ioniq Hybrid and Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid come with a new Kappa 1.6 direct-injected Atkinson four-cylinder powerplant. The Ioniq Hybrid is powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery with 1.56 kWh capacity. In collaboration with the 1.6-liter direct-injected motor, this car produces 139 horses and 125 lb.-ft. of torque. Finally, the Ioniq Electric variant offers a range of 110 miles, while the Plug-in Hybrid model achieves an all-electric range of more than 25 miles.

On the inside, the Ioniq is sleek and modern with its smooth and clutter-free design. Equipped with a high-definition 7-inch infotainment system, drivers will have no problem seeing important information. Plus, Ioniq lets drivers integrate their smartphone with the car’s infotainment system by offering both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay applications.

All three cars will be available for buyers in the U.S. Market. We anticipate the Ioniq to hit our store later this year. Feel free to contact us or stop by our dealership if you have any questions.
